Very agressive 2 year old

by JENNY1, Jan 06, 2003 12:00AM
I HAVE A PROLEM THAT IS GETTING ME DOWN.

MY CHILD HAS JUST TURNED TWO YEARS OLD AND HE IS VERY AGRESSIVE TOWARDS ME BUT NOT SO MUCH HIS FATHER. WHEN HIS FATHER WORKS NIGHTS JOSHUA IS AS GOOD AS GOLD, BUT WHEN WE ARE TOGETHER HE IS OUT OF CONTROL.

HE DOES NOT SLEEP DURING THE DAY, I WOULD BE LUCKY IF HE WENT AND 10 O'CLOCK AT NIGHT.

I AM SCRAPED AND BRUSED FROM HIM THROWING THINGS AND I DON'T BELIEVE IN HITTING HIM, I HAVE RAISED MY VOISE TO HIM AND I HAVE TAKEN AWAY HIS BARNEY AND TELLITUBBIES VIDEOS AND OTHER THINGS HE LIKES TO WATCH AND DO, BUT HE JUST LAUGHS AT ME AND THE OTHER NIGHT I BROKE DOWN CAUSE I JUST CAN'T TKAE ANY MORE. WOULD IT BE FROM ME WORKING FULL TIME AND NOT BEING THERE DURING THE DAY.

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP OR SUGGEST SOMETHING

REGARDS

I'm in no position to speculate on why your son is acting the way heis, but the behavior definitely requires a systematic response. Tactics like withdrawing privileges or taking items do not tend to be very effective with two-year-olds. Rather, employment of time out immediately in the face of any aggressive behavior tends to be more helpful. Your son is also getting to sleep pretty late. A two-year-old really requires 11-12 hours of sleep. Less than that amount depletes them, and their impulse control becomes pretty fragile.
