Multiple Nodules

by radhi, Oct 12, 2004 12:00AM
Hi! I have multiple nodules in the lung with sizes ranging from 1cm to 3 cms, for 2 years they were stable, when growing I took Prednizone, and it looked like it worked and they shrinked, but since 2 months it is not shrinking but growing 1mm each month, I am follwing up with CT every month, I would like to know if there is any medication or will radiation or chemotherapy will work for my condition. I did not find any doctor who can give me an advice with his previous experience. Iam the only patient with this kind of problem. Iam only doing my research on my condition and letting him know and he follows up with that case adn advices me. Please help me. Thank you for all.

A nodule is usually a small, round shadow seen on chest x-ray anywhere in the lungs.  Nodules are due to infections, inflammation, or tumors.  Nodules that are 1 centimeter or smaller are unlikely to be cancer.  Since prednisone caused these nodules to shrink they are less likely to be cancer.  Having a CT scan every month is rather unusual.  You will need to have more testing done to know what this could be.  A lung biopsy provides the specific answer that the CT scan cannot.  During a lung biopsy tiny pieces of lung tissue can be taken for further testing.  A lung biopsy is done to be certain about the problem.  Only then is it possible to say what treatment would be most helpful.

Your doctor should be able to tell you what is causing the nodules, give you a choice of treatments, and some idea of how much the treatments can help.  If this is not happening you should seek another opinion from a different doctor.
