Does daily multivitamins supplyments give incorrect HIV test result?

by never_so _regret, Mar 28, 2006 12:00AM
Dear Doc,

I actually tested negative both at 9 weeks and 13 weeks after exposure. But lately I heard that daily multivitamins supplyments intake can reduce HIV progression or delay onset of AIDS. Since I do take multivitamins everyday (3 years already), should I concern with my test result due to the intake? If no, can you kindly explain why it's irrelavent?

thanks alot.

I don't know where you heard that vitamins have any effect on HIV progression or delay onset of AIDS; they do not.  In any case, your question is irrelevant (to use your words) because disease progression in HIV infected people is an entirely different issue than having an effect on the blood test--and multivitamins don't have that effect either.  Regardless of vitamins (or any other drug or medical condition), a negative test result 13 weeks after exposure is 100% proof against HIV infection.
