Question Title: Vomiting, nausea, can't stand sight of most foods

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Digestive

Hi

I am 31 years old, overweight (5' 8' at 200lbs)
I recently quit smoking (1/2-1 pack a day for 5 yrs)
I do walking exercises 3 times a week.
Three months ago I started a sensible weight loss program and have lost
10 lbs.
Two weeks ago I spent the weekend vomiting everything I ate and
had pain under the right side of my ribs. I was given Compazine
and it helped some. I felt very tired, developed a severe headache for
2 days and had a fever of 101 for approx. 24 hrs.
Fours days later I was feeling better and could hold food down, but
only if it was a broth soup or green veggies...I ate a spagehtti
dinner 6 days after the initial vomiting and lost that dinner 3 hrs
later.
My physician had an Ultrasound done and there were no gallstones.
She did say I had some fat on my liver and that it was not enough to
worry about. (I wonder if this is because I had gained so much
weight in the last 3 yrs)
Anyway, I am not over the nausea and continue to take the Compazine.
I feel bad approx 1 hr after eating. I burp alot and have pain in under
my right rib. I always feel full.
Are there any other considerations for my problem?
My mother was a liver transplant patient (10 yrs and still going strong)
and has CMV. Could CMV cause this problem? Should I get tested?
I heard that CMV can cause pancreatic problems and am wondering if my sysmptoms
warrant a closser look.

Thank You for your help.
I will be seeing my physician for a F/U visit in a few days and
am curious about CMV.

Dear Anette Wood,
It is unusual for people who are immunocmpetent to develop chronic symptomatic CMV infection. I would suggest that you have an investigationof your upper gI tract with an upper GI and small intestine X-ray series and a radioisotope gastric emptying study.

This response is offered for your general information and should not replace the conclusions drawn from a careful and complete evaluation by your physician.
