Chronic Gastritis-2yrs-Cause belived 2b NSAIDs (*aspirin)... Do What?

by ILLAAW330, Aug 12, 2001 12:00AM
For two years I have been experiencing abdominal pain, naseau, vomiting, excessive weight loss.  My doctors say that I am experiencing gastritis, and that gastric juices are burning my stomach interior and causing great pain.  They have not found a cause although i have done research and after discovering the effect of non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on your stomach I am almost possitive that they are the cause of the persistent gastritis.  I have always freely taken aspirin, which I have learned is the worst of the NSAIDs, and my frequent use of it leads meto believe that it is the cause as I have read many articles and documents stating that it is a leading cause in gastrointestinal perferation, due to the fact that it temporarily disables the prostaglandins (bodies that control amount of gastric acids in stomach) allowing over abundance of gastric acids, which over power the defending mucosa lining of the stomach and eat through, posing the threat of peptic ulcers, and even worse, peritonitis or gastric cancer.  I will greatly reduce my use of aspirin if not cease its use, but what drug should I use for pain killers?  I am female, and do undergo natural pains.  I am currently prescribed to Zantac (75 mg) but not seeing its effectiveness as much as needed.  How can I rid of this disorder completely to eventually and quickly as possible return to normality?  I need help and plan to consult my doctor again soon, but their lack of information and support is leaving me doubting.  Further symptoms to Peptic ulcers showing, could use any knowledgable help! Thanks
