Diet to prevent attacks from gallstones

by keezia, Nov 30, 2001 12:00AM
I am a 46 yr. old female and was diagnosed with gall and kidney stones. It will take 6 months to see a specialist. In the meantime I would like to know the type of food to eat or avoid in order to not get attacks. I know fatty foods but what are fatty beside the basic? Does a person have to get their gall bladder out? From FAQ it seems even then stones can return.

From the info I read on kidney stones, they can be painful and to drink lots of water. Get them broken up with sonic waves? Any help greatly appreciated.

I just had my gallbladder out almost 3 weeks ago now. I guess I had no other choice. I had gallstones and my gallbladder was severly inflammed. I waited about 6 months in total also and I had to limit the foods I ate. I am not really sure about the fatty foods to stay away from but I will tell you what I ate if it will help you out at all.

-I stayed away from greasy foods (anything fried)

-I could eat lettuce but in small amounts like on a sandwich but not a salad

-I ate alot of fish which I cooked on the barbeque

-potatoes,rice,greenbeans,carrots,yellowbeans,

-basically all meats like chicken,steak,ham,porkchops

-I stayed away from anything like tomato sauce and tomatoes

-brocolli,brussel sprouts were out

-cheese in small amounts was okay

-corn okay but peas a not okay

this is just what I could and could not eat. Everyone is different but hope this gives you an idea. Oh! I cut all the fat off my meat before I cook it and I had no problems with butter or margarine. No spicy food!
