Suger in the urine

by abbasnaz, Nov 28, 2008 10:57AM
I have recently analized my urine with urinalysis stix and found there to be lots of glucose (glycosuria). on repeating the test several times later on the same day - negative. without any glucose. I underwent a fasting blood glucose test which showed a level of 5.3 mmol/l (95.4 mg/dl). today on testing my urine about 30 mins after 250ml of coke and 3 sweet biscuits there was NO glucose in the urine. Can anyone explain why the first test was positive?

You kept it a secret as to what time or when you performed the first test and also what you had consumed. You need to provide more details in order to get an appropriate response. For the last test you just didn't wait long enough. Sugar peaks 2-4 hours after consumption.

Your fasting glucose are within the normal range so why all the urine testing? Are you aware that urinalysis dipsticks have major disadvantages and may not be accurate?

Thanks for your response. i have consumed a can of coke and some tinned cream of tomato soup- but that was only perhaps 1 hour previously. when tested 2-4 hours later the urine was completly clear. so you state that it takes 2-4 hours for consumed suger to peak? i thought glucose is easily absorbed? the bottom line is a fastin glucose of 5.3 is not high?

Bottom line, you're not doing your body any good by consuming junk foods and sodas. Continuing along this line will eventually lead to diabetes.

"i thought glucose is easily absorbed?"

What goes into your mouth takes time to go though its proper digestive process before it enters your blood. I hope you're not thinking that its instantaneous. I ditto Dot, "your fasting glucose is within normal range."
