Nerve Damage in lower back.

by cole1983, Nov 28, 2008 12:34PM
Are there any types of surgeries available to deaden the nerves in the lower back to reduce pain or something like it.  I have been suffering for 10yrs. withsevere nerve damage and multiple herniated discs.  At this point i am just tired of taking medications period but without them there is just too much pain to deal with, i find myself wishing i was dead or couldnt feel anything from the waist down...  But not only does my pain make me suffer but also my wife and kids,  I just cant do the things with them a normal husband and father could do.

check out ESI (epidural steroid injection).  more importantly, you need to find out EXACTLY what is going on with your spine.  there are many many surgical options and back surgery today is SO much easier than it used to be.  Get a good diagnosis from a highly experienced neurologist or spine surgeon, then they can suggest treatment options.  "Deadening" nerves or calming them with steroids is only a temporary fix.

I understand your depression - Pain is awful.  BUT there are positive steps you can take.

Try to be positive and do your research and I think you will find some answers.  I DO know how you feel and it can be damn hard to be positive in that much pain.  You can do it.
