Erosion on lip

by kathykay, Nov 28, 2008 02:35PM
I woke up about a week ago to what I thought was going to be a typical fever blister. But my lower lip swelled up pretty big and like an idiot I squeezed it...thinkning that may not be what I thought it was......when it dries up it has a yellow pus all over it...I can scrape that off and put vaseline on it and it will look decent until night when it forms that yellow crusty stuff. Well I woke up this morning and my top lip is doing the same thing....it is swelled up and sore. I do wear dentures and plan on getting new ones made....but I can't think this would have anything to do with that since my dentures don't even touch this area. Could this be some kind of auto-immune disorder? or worse yet could this be a STD?

Its possible its just a very bad cold sore (sometimes refer to as a fever blister).  Its basically a herpes virus infection that is pretty common in the general population.  By popping the cold sore, it may have spread to the upper lip.  It would be best to take care of it by avoiding any more trauma to the area and try not to irritate the lip.  It should probably go away by itself in a few more days.  If it doesn't improve, you should go see a dentist or your medical physician.
