SPOILED 7 YR OLD OR JUST STUBBORN?

by loribeth67, Nov 28, 2008 05:00PM
My 7 yr old daughter (my husband is the biological father and I adopted her at 8 months old, birth mother was a drug addict) is I admit spoiled, having every luxury we can afford.  She is also very very strong willed.  When instructed to do something ie: clean her room, she tells me "that's not my favorite".  She throws fits, cries, and etc... My husband and I have done all we know to do as far as disclipine goes.  We have tried the soft approach, as well as the hard approach.  She will sneak to do what she wants.  She does not care what we take away from her, she tells us to throw it away.  I am at my wits end... any suggestions...????

Focus on her positive side and praise her when she does something right, its not always about punishing either a soft or a hard approach, walk in her shoes and try the other option, material goods will not help, and a lot of us dont like to be "instructed" to clean up , be less demanding and treat her the way you would want to be treated. If she throws fits at times  figure out what was the cause of it , make sure she isnt upset and if it is for no reason use the time out method with no words.
