rippling in eye

please help, I panicked with this problem this is the 3rd time I have experienced a ripple effect in my eye and which it effected my vision.Had eyes tested dialated eyes, etc all was good, was told it was a migraine without pain? is this right I never heard of a migraine without pain? I used to get very severe sharp pains at the base of my head it was really intense and painful I thought it was a nerve related. But I dont get the pain with this eye problem, what can be done to treat it and make it stop.

Dear prudent35,

I would recommend that you seek the care of a neuro-ophthalmologist or eyeMD who specializes in treating migraines.  You can have migraines of the eye without headaches, and with a past history of headaches, the diagnosis may be appropriate.  You may require systemic medicine to control the migraines.
