I HAVE SEVERE DECAY AND MAJOR DENTAL PROBLEMS FROM BEING ON MEDICATIONS THAT DRY AND ROTT MY TEETH OUT FOR MY CHRONIC PAIN THAT I HAVE TO TAKE! I NEED MAJOR ADVICE AND INFORMATION!!!

by SHELLBELL79, Nov 28, 2008 09:24PM
Hi,
I have always had great teeth and was diagnosed in 99' with Chronic Interstitial Cystis and Vulvodynia...bascily Pelvic Pain Syndrome. It's Hell! Anyway, since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, my mouth went from being almost perfect to having a deep cavity in every single tooth. I had alreay had a crown in the back and 2 teeth that had root canals that were not crowned yet and just broke off at the gum line and they have been like that since. I only have medicaid and don't have good credit, or money. I am 29 and still live with my parents b/c of the severe chronic pain I live in. I won't date b/c of my teeth. I have had 5 root canals so far and need a few more my endodontist said wed. She suggest that since my teeth are rotting from the gumline I should get all my teeth extracted and get implants. I have had on every single one of my teeth fillings since 05' done over like 3 to 5 times just in a 3 year period. Just with dental work I would need definatly 3 extractions, 3 inplants, 3 inplant crowns and a ton of fillings and over 15 crowns, 3 partials, etc, which would be at least 30,000. I can get a my grandpa who has great credit to sign fot the loan but the endodontist who is well known and my moms ex boss recommended the extraction and inplants and that I have great bone and they can be done in a day. Im scared about how much that all will cost at once, the pain, etc???? Im an scrared and excited. Im scared about the price and even though my grandpa has excellent credit should he still get approved? I am very scrared about the pain b/c I have a ridicoulusly high tolerance for pain medications b/c of my chronic pain illness. It would be cool thought to have perfect straight, white teeth!! Please, HELP! Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

I can definitely relate to what you are going through.  I have a porcelain crown on every tooth in my head.  I also had 2 implants put in that hold a partial in the back on both sides.  My dental problems do not relate to my drug use though.  My teeth started breaking off when I was really young due to a lack of calcium.  My mother’s teeth did the exact same thing.  My work has taken place over the past 10 years, and I would hate to add up how much I have spent over the years.  Just Tuesday I had to have one of the crowns cut off because the post broke and the crown wouldn’t come off.  I had to pay $850 for a new crown, but it is a front tooth and I wanted it to look normal.

I thought Medicaid paid for dental work if it was a necessity?

The only way medicaid will pay for dentsitry is if I am pregnant or under 21.  Just last night was trying to eat a small hamburger on the other side of my mouth...which is where the other root canal and crack is and all the sudden I feel a big piece off tooth come of in my food. It was a root canal and build-up from a year ago, which is like 4 teeth from my front teeth. Im supposed to be going to a dentist/maxial facial surgeon/oral surgeon...he's an all in one. All he does is remove teeth and put in permant implants. I wanted to wait ti'll after new years, but my teeth aren't lokking like their holding up. I am literally crying right now. I am about to have a nervous breakdown. I wish I would have know that bladder pills like uristat, pryidium plus, urelle. and visteril ruin your teeth. At least Im now not going to waste 20 grand on dental work that is gonna get pulled out anyway. I know dentures are cheap but sorry I  refuse to have them. I get asked out for dates and can't even go out b/c of my teeth. Can you honestly tell me how the exractions and the inplants feel? I am scared to death but, I will have straight, white  brand new teeth. I wish you could go to the hospital and they could put you out for like 1 or 2 weeks ti'll the the pain goes away. Oh since you have partials, you had to get bone graphs and you have to wait 3 to 6 months to get the implant in?  Oh and how much are your inplants a piece? Thanks so much!

Hey lady,
I forgot to thank you for your reply! I am so glad that I found out that I found someone will similar problems as me. I am going to start taking strong does of cal/mag too. That should help with the process. I know mostly when people get inplants they get the extractions and then have to get bone graphs and wait 3 to 6 months with a partial in and then get the inplant and then you have to wait to get the temporary inplant crown. The denstist/endodonist did the new 3/4 d cat scan of my entire mouth and said it will be aa waste of money with the crowns b/c my teeth will still decay. She said since I have good bone that the doc will extract them and put in bone marrow and the inplants all at once and do the temp. too. I'll just have to wait like 3 to 6 months for them to heal and get strong before the permanant inplant crowns. I just hope everything goes well, since he specializes in just doing that and he's well known and personally knows my endodonist who is my moms ex boss. She is going to tell him my case and send all my info and cat scans and hopefully with give me some kind of discount and I hope my grandpa who has excellent credit will get approved for all of it. Im just a nervous wreck and am scrared to go in public. You can't tell my teeth are bad unless you look really closely or if I smile big, cause then you can see the 2 missing teeth on my top side of my mouth and all the other cracked teeth. My front tooth had already cracked 1 month ago and had to get a quick bonding on it. Im just scrared to go out in public b/c you never know when those suckers are going to break off. My bottom teeth are badly decayed at the root. I am hoping to get an appt. with the speciality dentist this week and I have to get my other root canal done b/c I am hurting with it too much, other wise I would just leave it there b/c its going to be pulled out anyway and my endodontist is doing it for free. She say I have a bunch of others, but since their not bothering me, she's not worrying about them. But, all my teeth are very hypersensitve to pain and hurt daily. I can't eat anything hard. It $ucks! I know Ive probalbly repeated myself but, I am venting and scared! Thanks for listening and responding! Good luck with your teeth!

Hi,
Try not to worry about any pain.  I just had four implants after my four front teeth were pulled and I can honestly say the pain was minimal.  I didn't even need pain meds after.
For me the hardest part was the novocaine shots, but once they were over, it was really a pain free procedure that was over quickly.
Good luck with yours and let us know how you do.  Best thing you can do now is focus on the finished product because you will be there soon!
To a happy smile!

Thanks, I just wanted to know...after the inplants were put in, did they feel like real teeth? Can you eat normally after? How much were they?

I agree!  The pain was very minimal.  I was so scared because of my previous history of pain pills, but I only took 2 lortab 10's through the entire process.  It was totally worth it in the way of look, but I still haven't gotten used to eating on the implants.  I have 4 back teeth
