Sharp Pain in Jaw!

by Tiff785, Nov 29, 2008 03:49AM
Ok back in July I had tooth #30 removed because I had a temporary root canal filling that had cracked because I never got the permanant crown.  In October I started to notice and mild sharp pain on the same side.  I went to the dentist and he told me it was probaly tooth #31 because it too had a root canal that that had cracked because I never got the permanant crown.  He referred me to an oral surgeon.  He also said while you are there you might as well get tooth #32, my wisdom pulled.  By the time my appointment came around the sharp pain was even worse.  The oral surgeon pulled the 2 teeth and I was happy until the next day the pain was so severe I would immediately start crying. Seriously this pain is way worse then having a baby. Well I went back to the oral surgeon and he said it was to soon to be dry socket but she is going to treat it like dry socket and she packed it.  Oh yeah and also he gave me amoxicillin 250mg.  Well I was better for a week. I could talk again the pain was mild enough were I could eat a little bit.  After a week I had been off of the antibiotic for about three days when the pain slowly started to come back.  It then got to the point where I could not open my mouth or it would feel like someone was stabbing me in the side of my face.  Also if I even touched my lip on that side it would set the pain off.  I wasn't able to eat.  I lost 19 lbs.  I have been back to the doctor 4 times.  I even went to another dentist for a 2nd opinion.  He didn't see anything either.  They just keep giving me different medications.  I have 2 different muscle relaxers and percocet and none of those seemed to help.  So I went back to the oral surgeon and told him that I thought it may be an infection because when I was on antibotic I was alot better.  So he wrote me a prescription for the antibotic Amoxicillin 875 mg.  After a few days it started to feel better and I was able to eat but there was still a sharp pain, just not as severe as it had been.  Well needless to say I have been off of the Amoxicllin for 4 days now and the pain is getting stronger again.  The site were he pulled the last 2 teeth are almost competely healed and look fine but there is a red area around the site of the tooth that was pulled way back in June.  Also this morning I noticed a sharp piece of tooth or something poking through so I got some tweezers and pulled it out.  Do you think there may be part of my tooth left and maybe its causing infection, which may be causing this excrutiating pain.  The sharp pain woke me up from my sleep and that is why I am writing this hoping someone can help.
