Early Pregnancy Symptoms after IVF

by cbw7, Nov 29, 2008 10:04AM
I am 44 years old. This is our second ICSI-IVF treatment. I still produce good quality eggs, which is a good thing. However, I am not 25 so it is harder to get pregnant. This second time the doctor gave me hormones and I produced many follicules, but there were 6 eggs. The day the doctor retrieved them, he found out that two eggs were already gone, so he retrieved 4 and fertilized them by ICSI. That was on November 26. The following day (Nov 27) I had an Artifitial Insemmination, because the doctor said those two eggs were still in my tubes so they could be fertilized. On November 28 they transfer 3 eggs (grade 1, 2 and 3, they were 3, 4, 5 or more cells). I know it is very early to know if I am pregnant, plus the hormones I am taking can give similar symptoms. However, I would like to exchange experience with you during this 2WW period. I am kind of peeing a lot, I breasts are swallowed, and I have a little bit of cramps, very soft, not that hard. It feels like when you are going to have your period. I hope all of you will get pregnant!

The 2WW is the absolute worse!!  It always feels like months to me, and I am one of those pee on a stick addicts that starts testing about 5 or 6 days past ovulation..lol.  Typically a few days past o is a bit early for symptoms, but I have heard women that have them.  I think we know our bodies so well, especially as we get a bit older and are actively trying to conceive.  I wish you well, and hope this cycle does the trick for you!!  Welcome and good luck!  Please keep us posted.

I had a successful ivf cycle and had no symptoms during my 2ww.  Some ladies have lots of different symptoms but it's hard to say if those are caused my rising hcg or just progesterone supplements.

I hope ivf works for you!!

I have had successful IVF cycles and I did have symptoms both times. I definitely peed a lot more and I had a lot of gas (the burping kind like indigestion) but I know of others who all had slight cramping and sore bbs. I don't completely recall when the symptoms started though but it was at least several days before my scheduled beta. If you check out our the thread from my profile (the 5 for 5 gals) and look at the threads from the beginning to mid, you will see all of our symptoms during the 2ww. All five of us got pregnant through IVF cycles (and one member joined later that also got pregnant) that were around the same time . The odds were definitely against us.

From what I have read but don't know for sure, is that your body basically thinks it is pregnant from the progesterone and other meds you take post retrieval (sort of like when you would take BCPs) that you wouldn't have symptoms of AF.
