Cats shed an outer layer from they claws from time to time. This is absolutely normal, all cats do it.
They usually claw something like a scratching post or your carpet (!) to help get it off. I see little "claws" on my floors from time to time, but it is just their normal shedding.
When it starts it looks like the claw is splitting from underneath and it can look like there is cracking, brittleness or dryness... that sort of thing. Totally normal and nothing to worry about at all.
I'm really sure that's what it is. When someone asks me about their cat's claws pealing it's pretty much always claw shedding. But, if you don't think the symptoms match for any reason or you have any other concerns, please come on backBack pain - low Back strain treatment and let us know, ok?

Don't feel bad, the first time I saw it I got kind of scared, thinking that my cat had hurt her claw or that she had some kind of condition. Most cat owners who aren't familiar with claw shedding kind of freak out the first time!
