Herpes incubation?

by Jagdpanther, Nov 29, 2008 11:29AM
is it fair to say that  if your intial outbreak is severe , fever, swollen glands, flu like symptoms,
aches, severe headache, bed ridden , then you have probably acquired the infection recently, within the past few
days, weeks?

Outbreaks can vary in severity,it is usual that a primary outbreak will be the worse, but unfortunately with Herpes being such a variable condition this does not apply to everyone, for example some people may have nothing or a very mild attack almost unoticeable, followed by weeks months even years of no symptoms at all then all of a sudden have a fairly severe outbreak which leads them to believe it was aquired from thier most recent partner when often this is not the case it can be a recurrence of the virus that may have been aquired some time ago  .....
There is no real way of knowing when the infection was aquired although some tests are able to say whether it is likely to have been recent.

thanks

I am going to have IgG test for antibodies, I am still recovering from initial outbreak, so if no antibodies then it has to be caught from current partner

About 1/2 of folks will test igg + within 2-3 weeks of being infected. The window of opportunity for this is pretty short. Has your current partner been tested?

she said she did have test.

When I asked her what test she had, she ignored my question.

We are now split, I believe she has not gone to clinic.
