what to do

by xx2, Nov 29, 2008 12:53PM
I'm a survivor of colon cancer y yrs ago and have had bowel problems since. Have tried everything possible with fiber but that seems to be worst. I recently stopped eating all bread other than wheat or spinach wraps if I have a sandwich. That worked terrific for 5 weeks no gas, bloating or uncomfortable feeling and stools seemed to be fine. I decided to try pasta also during that week I had corn, needless to say I have been in a bad way since. I have this liquid that keeps coming, I am having normal stools now but the liquid comes all the time without warning. What is this liquid and how do I shut it off. It has flared my hemorroids terribly. I have an appointment with a dietician this week since no doctor that I have had even suggested food could be a problem. I don't know what I have irritated to have this liquid. I took an immodine and that seemed to stop the liquid for a few hours but I don't like to take it if I don't have to. Any advise would be helpful.
thanks

Change in bowel movement, diarrhea and very loose stools that was continuing for about 2 months. Had a colonosopy and found the cancer, it was probably a polep turned cancerous because I waited too long to go and get it checked out or have a colonosopy sooner. Their are some poleps that can be  cancerous and it was detected in a sibling seems it heredity for these particular poleps.
Hope this helps you.

There is only one way to find out for sure, but it sounds like you're experiencing gluten intolerance.  The closest thing I found to a "bread" that is gluten free is brown rice tortillas at Trader Joe's.  I really love their rice cakes.  For pasta lovers, they even have pasta made out of rice.

The way to find out if gluten is the problem is simply to avoid eating gluten for a minimum of two weeks or longer.  If you notice an improvement in your symptoms, then gluten is aggravating the problems you're already experiencing.

Rice is not your only option either.  Check out the different grains that are gluten free grains in the bulk foods section of your grocery stores.  As already mentioned, rice is one of these.  Just don't use glutionous rice, that's all.  Wild rice, millet, quinoa (find useful cooking information and recipes for quinoa on care2.com under healthy living, then use key words to find the information about quinoa.  Annie has some very good information about quinoa), amaranth, and teff are all options for a gluten-free diet.

Have you already had the surgery?  I do know of someone who is a long time survivor, and he is doing very well after many years.
