Bowel Movements Pre and Post Partum

by Muffy228, Nov 29, 2008 01:43PM
Before becoming pregnant, I had very irregular bowel movements and lots of gas.  When I was pregnant, this all changed- I was regular and the gas disappeared.  I delivered 7 weeks ago and my digestive system is back to where it was.  I'm curious if there is a hormone that is produced during pregnancy, a vitamin, or anything that I could do to "recreate" the bowel movement bliss I experienced while pregnant.

Wow...you were lucky!  With all of my pregnancies (including my current one) I have always been gassy and constipated.  Usually when you are pregnant your digestive system slows down due to the progesterone/hormones as a method for your body to get the most out of every bit of food you ingest, for the benefit of your baby.
Were you maybe eating a better/different diet while pregnant?  Maybe you were ingesting more fiber and more water, which helps regulate your stools.
Only thing I can think of is to maybe take some Metamucil daily to help with your bowels.
As for me, I'm happily munching on some prunes as I type! (Well, maybe not so "happily"... I hate the taste of prunes! hahaha)
Good luck.
