horror writers

by troubleinohio, Nov 30, 2008 09:21AM
i know quite a few of you here (or the people who were here at least months prior ago) mentioned being avid readers and enjoying horror authors. We had discussed a little bit about how we liked Koontz and King. I was wondering if any of you who do like horror have read any of Richard Laymon's books? IF so how did you like him? Ive  been reading alot of his stuff in the last year or two. I was glad to have found him because I'd already read all of koontz and kings that i wanted to a logn time ago. Laymon has wrote over 30 gruesome books himself before he tragically died in 2001. But his estate/publisher continues to release his books to this day (some were older ones that were previously out of print but have been re-released). Anyhow just wondered if anyone else knew of this horror treasure writer and if you enjoy his work as much as I do. If you are a horror fan and have not read any of his yet, I highly recommend him!

I don't read.....cant' you tell by my spelling?.....lol.  My mom got into Koontz about 6 years ago, she really like reading his stuff.....I just can't get into it.  I'm not a reader, but I did read one book that I was very surprised to be fantastic.......It was written by Louie Anderson.....I think (autobiography) I could not put this down till the last page........

I tried to read 'Million little pieces" oiy!  I knew it was bull$hit.....I can't believe so many fell for it.......it was painful to try to read.....like a million little pieces scattered into a "book"........that book turned me off from reading..........to this day........

I wish happy reading to you TIOhio....I can see you reading all the chit.......

I am in the middle of Truth at Sunrise - - - a Hemingway book that was edited and published after Ernest's death by his son, Patrick......it has lost some things in the editing - - I started reading Koontz when I was hospitalised in isolation and a friend sent me one ..... good stuff..

For horror and a good story, I like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Peter Straub and John Saul.  A relatively new author, Scott Smith (I think that's his name) is good too.  He wrote The Ruins and A Simple Plan.  I've never heard of Laymon but will try to find one of his books.

Also Robert McCammon (particularly Swan Song- that is a SUPER book!), Bentley Little, Rick Mofina, Peter Straub, James Herbert, Ray Bradbury (something wicked this way comes--- AWESOME book!!), F. Paul Wilson...I could go on and on lol.

Has anyone read the other books Koontz wrote under different names? I have a list if you guys wanna know. Also - has anyone read anything by Greg Iles? The most recent one was True Evil - he's not horror tho, definitely suspense. He's an incredible writer if you like to be on the edge of your seat!!

cattalina- i had alot of his books he wrote under Owen West, Leigh Nichols, David Axton, Aaron WOlfe, Brian Coffey, Deana Dywer, Richard Paige and a few others  I cant remember the names of right now, lol.  Alot of them were re-released under his own name once he became more popular. Alot of people dont realize he struggled for many years in the early 70's. anyhow i sold all my "rare Koontz books" on ebay already including one of my autographed ones. (hey i needed the money, lol).  I still do have one left though that he signed and it has a personalized message to me in it with my name, so even if i wanted to sell that one, i cuoldnt LOL

That's awesome! The personalized autographed copy and the fact that you know alot of his other pen names!! I was shocked he wrote under so many names! I love his books - have you read the "Odd Thomas" collection? There's 4 now right? Other than these books he's never done a trilogy or ... what would you call 4?? or anything like that has he?

by troubleinohio, Dec 03, 2008 08:24PM
Catt

yep Koontz has another trilogy..but only 2 are done....the Christopher Snow ones  (Moonlight BAy Trilogy)

Fear Nothing
Seize the Night

Ride The Storm (which I believe he has not finished writing yet and alot of fans have given up on him ever finishing it)

The first two books are GREAT though.

and yes, the Odd Thomas books now stand at 4.

How many of his books have your read?

Ive read all of his that I wanted to (which means about 95%). I just couldnt get into the frankenstine ones at all..
